Challenges, barriers and strategies for engaging in level 7 apprenticeship studies

This study explores the lived experience of apprentices on a degree-level programme and their perceptions how elements apprenticeship that aren’t components traditional degree – i.e. off-the-job training impact learner journey. article undertakes thematic analysis following qualitative interviews with eleven apprentices, who are early-career academic professionals nearing end apprenticeships. Key findings offer mixed picture, suggest habits preferences personal to individuals impacted by employment workload access time. Apprentices indicate many factors encroach ability utilise allocated time, primarily be released from employed work conflicting priorities around meeting study, business, needs. in reality it is almost impossible for them spend 20% working time studies. Recommendations offered both institutions individuals, regarding need sound dialogue removal barriers ensure can meet contractual requirements study.
